ZOA, an international Christian NGO, supports people who have lost everything due to armed conflict or natural disaster. Together, we can come to their aid in emergencies and remain faithful to communities as they recover – providing new opportunities for them to help themselves again. Our work is coordinated from our international office in Apeldoornthe Netherlands. We are active in multiple countries in Africa, the Middle East Region and Asia. We work with approximately 900 employees worldwide and with (local) partners.

Are you looking for the opportunity to add your expertise to our mission? We are currently recruiting an

Internal Auditor
(Apeldoorn, 32-40 hours per week)

Your contribution
ZOA has made an excellent name for itself as a professional and reliable relief and recovery organisation. It is a reputation we value highly and that we are keen to maintain and expand on. As internal auditor, you will make an essential contribution to realising exactly that.

Together with a colleague from the internal audit team you are responsible for preparing, conducting and reporting on internal audits. These are conducted periodically in each of our country organisations and in our international office in Apeldoorn. We believe that the critical eyes and ears of our audit team contribute to a healthy level of accountability, learning and improvement and to being in control as an organisation; not just in terms of finance, but also in terms of our commitment towards the people we serve in our programmes worldwide.

Audits start at the international office in the Netherlands where you review and analyse systems, documents and information. You frequently travel to our country programmes and compare the administrative status with our operational practice at field level. You meet and talk to the people we serve in our programmes in countries like South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Syria. As in all we do at ZOA, we want to focus on the people we serve!

Based on the experience gained in these audits, you contribute to monitoring countries’ efforts to improve and to the ongoing development of our quality and risk management standards and systems.

Your profile
We are looking for someone who knows how to combine audit skills with the complex reality of international relief and development programmes. This could be an experienced financial or operational auditor with experience in international relief and development or a similar field. It could also be someone with experience in relief and development, such as MEAL or programme management, who has also gained experience or proven affinity with audits.

Becoming successful as Internal Auditor in ZOA means you:

  • fully support the vision, mission and Christian identity of ZOA;
  • hold a university degree in a relevant field, such as auditing or business administration or you were trained in international development or a similar field and are prepared to further develop audit knowledge and skills;
  • have multiple years of audit experience and also have some experience with relief and development or comparable programmes. Alternatively, you have at least 3 years of experience with monitoring and evaluating relief and development programmes and some experience with auditing;
  • have organisational, intercultural and interpersonal sensitivity;
  • are analytically strong, persuasive and able to present a clear opinion;
  • have a natural attitude of motivating people;
  • are good in planning and organising your work;
  • have an excellent command of English, both verbally and written; French, Spanish, and Arabic are a bonus, but not essential;
  • are willing and able to travel to a ZOA programme country four to six times per year.

We offer

  • a challenging position and opportunity to support communities hit by crises;
  • the opportunity to work with colleagues from all over the world by visiting our programmes and witnessing first-hand the impact of our work;
  • an international environment with a continuous focus on and desire to improve and innovate;
  • a one-year contract with flexible working hours and a generous work-from-home policy;
  • an attractive salary of €4.556,- to €6.401,- (based on full-time, 40 hours) and good benefits, including a 13th month, 29 leave days and a good pension plan.
