The MV LOGOS HOPE is a vital part of the international ministry of OM. With more than 400 volunteers from over 50 different countries, living and working onboard, the ship is a floating global village. The MV LOGOS HOPE is looking for a


to serve as a Family Doctor for the ship’s company, which comprises of people in ages ranging from 0 to 60+.

Working in the onboard clinic you will, among other duties, be expected to:
– Manage, support and equip team members of the Clinic;
– Run and maintain the Clinic on a regular basis and provide medical care and treatment to crew, staff and guests onboard Logos Hope;
– Organise and coordinate the 24/7 emergency medical schedule;
– Ensure that crew medicals of (new) crew members are being done at the PST (Pre-Ship Training) venue or onboard, according to the Maritime standards and regulations;
– Ensure that the Patient records are documented in our database system / Medical Treatment Log Book and make reports of any work-related injuries;
– Advice and coordinate when poeple need medical care or diagnostics on shore, and liaise with the onshore Medical Officer where appropriate;
– Advice the ship’s personnel of disease prevention measures to be taken in any particular areas or ports;
-Maintain and restock the Clinic’s medications and supplies and ensure that new medications or supplies are being ordered when needed;
– Inform the Master of any unusual sicknesses or epidemics on board and request assistance if required;
– Participate in emergency routine drills, including fire and Abandon Ship drills and fulfil the specific duties as stated on the Muster list.

Here are some aspects of the skill set required:
– A current, official license as a medical professional
– You have previous work experience at a hospital or doctor’s practice
– Experience in general medicine, surgery and aneastetics (benefit, not essential)
– Good communication and people skills, service focussed
– Self-motivated and able to work independently
– Able to cope with stressful situations

As the Medical Officer on Logos Hope, you will:
– Work 5 days per week, have 1 ministry day per week, be given 1 off day per week, however, being flexibel when required
– Cover an ‘On Call’ duty role as assigned by the schedule maker, meaning that you will be on call for 24-hour period on your duty day. During this time, you are expected to be on the ship and available to respond to any medical emergency outside of clinic hours
– Maintain a good working relationship with everyone on board, seeking restoration and reconciliation in cases of conflict
– Be willing to contribute in areas of need outside your immediate skill set, if necessary
– Be actively involved in the community activities on the ship
– Have a personal, growing faith in Jesus
